WildMedix Doctor departs for Antarctica | Walther | 03 Jan 2008
Ross is departing this week for the White South as the doctor and expedition leader for the South African National Antarctic Expedition. He and his team of scientists and support personnel will take up residence at the SANAE IV base in Queen Maud Land, Antarctica, at around 72° south, where they will stay through the long polar winter to study diverse phenomena including cosmic radiation and the earth’s magnetic field and ionosphere. As the only medical professional, he will be responsible for all medical, surgical and dental needs of the team, in the harshest environment on the planet. For obvious reasons, WildMedix expedition medical training will cease until the expedition’s return in 2009, but the experience gained will be invested once again into the program.
