CPR & first aid for outdoor recreation
 
Not the standard urban first aid training. The Wilderness First Aider course teaches participants how to respond to possible life-threatening emergencies and serious medical problems  commonly encountered in the wilderness environment. The course practicals and scenarios are entirely wilderness oriented and many of the sessions take place outdoors.

This course is an ideal introduction to the topic of wilderness first aid for people who travel or work in the outdoors. We will equip you with the skills to deal with common problems and emergencies you may encounter while adventuring or exploring.

Introduction to wilderness first aid & legal issues in wilderness first aid
Basic principles of first aid and safety, scene management
Anatomy and physiology, patient assessment
CPR, AED, choking, shock, unconsciousness and fainting
Head and spinal injury
Wounds, bleeding, dressings and bandages, infection control
Fractures, sprains, strains and dislocations, splints
Improvising splinting and traction
Burns
Diabetes

Seizures and epilepsy

Cardiac conditions
Hypothermia, hyperthermia and other environmental conditions
Allergies and allergic reactions
Poisoning

Bites and stings
Water emergencies
Patient lifting, self-extrication and transport
Wilderness medicine
Calling for HELP in the wilderness
